I didn't watch yesterday's 'How long is a piece of string?' will check that out as well...
But it's not available yet to watch again...
Thanks for calling attention to the programme. I found it interesting, but with rather a lot of irritating padding.
They seem to go for rather strange views of the scientists...can't see why they can't just sit in front of us and speak as the British chap did...makes my eyes ache all these strange shots and alterations in colour...![]()
A very interesting programme. I remember counting the words when my first son started to speak, then suddenly there was such a torrent of words I couldn't keep up.
The programme makers do think that nobody can concentrate for more than a few minutes. Very annoying.
LOL...I really don't think that's true about concentration...when you're really involved in something, you can concentrate for a very long time...people talk about limited attention spans for TV viewing often and I can appreciate the mind might wander often with all the banal drivel they feed us, but, if the programme grips you, then you should be able give your full attention to it for however long it lasts...
Yes I agree.

Bit disappointed. Horizon used to show real science - not the dumbed down stuff they feed us now. Is fascinating the process of learning to talk - my 3 month old baby is making all sorts of 'pre-words' and you can hear how they will become coherent over time. Was especially great watching him and his 2 year old cousin talking to each other, you could really believe they understood each other, and maybe they do!
Yes, they did, but the film makers got hold of them, and couldn't resist padding and tricksy views instead of just allowing the scientists to talk in front of the camera...does happen but there's a lot of walking around streets and driving from one place to another which is really surplus to requirements...still it's better than nothing...![]()
