Very good article about the Royal Mail strike written by a postie. It says a lot about what's going on and, if you believe him, is a bit on an inditement of the Royal Mail management.

It is an excellent article, it is all true, and more besides that isn't mentioned. I worked for them for twenty years, and all the time there was a steady stream of "modernisation" schemes, all involving more work by less staff with more managers to watch them do it.
I must confess to not having entire sympathy for the post workers. Getting fewer people to do the same work and getting machines to do some of it has been the aim of mechanization since it started over 150 years ago. It is simply their turn. My job was outsourced to India a few years ago - I just accepted it and moved on. If some postal workers get made redundant that's what they will have to do. It's a shame, but there is no such thing as a "job for life" any more.
Tom.
fantastic article makes you think doesnt it
Bottom line: Business has to be competitive.
Martin Niemoeller: In Germany they came first for the Communists, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Communist. Then they came for the Jews, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Jew. Then they came for the trade unionists, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a trade unionist. Then they came for the Catholics, and I didn't speak up because I was a Protestant. Then they came for me, and by that time no one was left to speak up.

Yes, I saw this in the Independent a few days ago. Certainly makes you think, doesn't it?
