As we have seen in some earlier blogs, the King of Thailand has some very tough laws to protect him from criticisms. These extend to his son, the Crown Prince.

The most internationally well-known person to fall foul of these "Alice in Wonderland" laws is now Harry Nicolaides, whose detention at the airport on the way out of the country has culmuniated in a trial at which he decided to plead guilty.

He has now been sentenced to three years in a Thai jail for insulting the monarchy, reduced from six in recognition of his guilty plea.

Nicolaides's crime involved using the internet to publicise comments in a book called Verisimilitude, which in fact sold just seven copies.
