I would have more consideration for him if he was an elected prime minister

Hi Jen, heard parts of it, all kids will be educated! thought that was the idea 11 years ago, free drugs for those with cancer! does that include the expensive ones that they can't afford at the present time? How many have died during the 11 years that we have waited for this? maybe
I missed the part where he said that Government would pay all the costs of hospices!
Bet you that he will be the ex PM within two months. -

For me it is not really an issue about Brown. We don't vote for Prime Ministers in this country, but for parties.
Whatever one thinks of Gordon personally, the focus should be whether you consider that the government of the last 10 years has performed well or poorly.
The speech in itself was as exactly as you'd expect it. But remember he was speaking to Labour members and not the general public per se.
We need to step beyond traditional parties and politics in this country, if we want truly affective government. All contemporary politicians simply fight over the centre ground with populist policies.
Old style ideology, such as socialism is now dead (whether right or wrong).
Modern politics is in fact so bland, that you can, with a combination of hard work and personal wealth simply by pass it. If you live outside of London, earn more than a specific amount each year, have a viable career that is not so dependent on market forces, then what difference does it make who is running the country.
Unfortunately this is not the prerogative of the poor.

I think Labour are a twitching corpse and new style ideology is just getting going. The labels are not there yet but there are fault lines that seem to exist between interventionist, authoritarian statists [those who keep thinking that silencing their critics or imposing solutions through managerialist means is holding the centre ground of politics] and the 'libertarianish' tendency (which every party has).
My biggest concerns are about what is going to prevent the gains the BNP will make as Labour collapses.

No, I heard it the first time.
I'm still in recovery.
