The Myth of Male Power - Warren Farrell.
He's a very smart bloke and he makes many good points, not just here but elsewhere. I find it intriguing that American feminists refuse to debate him. He keeps challenging and they keep ignoring. I wonder why?
His thoughts on the lie about pay inequality between men and women are fascinating. He demonstrates very clearly that many women deliberately choose lower paid jobs for personal reasons. So, they can expect lower earnings.
But I think the sexes still don't have equal opportunities yet. Feminism still has work left to do, and to prevent moving beyond the centre, the masculinists need to be pushing back, and Farrell is at the forefront of that push-back.
Tom.
The man's a giant.
I really can't stand the self-centered, self-importance of middle-class feminism.
The screech of "I need to earn as much a him" of the banker or lawyer. The constant complaints about the glass ceiling while never looking at the glass cellar. They don't care or find solace in the fact that the hardest, most menial jobs are done by men.
Their attention is so focused on themselves that they are incapable of caring about anyone else. They cry bitterly about their "rights", God help us if they don't get that promotion they want - but an unwanted pregnancy? Cut that little bastard out.
For all it's high aims, feminism did end up badly tainted with Middle Classism. Traditional, working class women were unfairly sidelined by it.
But the glass ceiling is very real: I've seen it with my own eyes. True equality is still a couple of generations away.
Tom.
Ask the Rockefellers about the creation of feminism and it's function. I think you will find that much of the social breakdown can be attributed to feminism.
I have no problem with women working or leading, and in fact, some of them are damn good at it, but in order to maintain our mammalian cohesion as people, we need to find gap fillers to replace the working woman in the home.
Make no mistake, even once rabid feminists are beginning to realise that a woman cannot be fulfilled without man and family. Just as a man needs a woman and family for fullfilment.
I listened to them all - really good, really fascinating, thanks for that. He seems to be able to put succinctly what I've been thinking and saying for some time. I didn't realize the inequality he speaks of, but as for men's role in society he's spot on.
It strikes me that there are not too many free radical thinkers such as this guy on our side of the pond. I don't know if it's because the US has such a large media base that these people get a hearing or because the greater diversity in the US means more ideas are propogated, but do you know anyone British who can be as exciting and challenging as Farrell, Crichton or Michael Moore et al?
