A senior family court judge has warned of an “epidemic” of family failure which is pushing children into drugs and crime.

Mr Justice Coleridge warned that urban family life is in “meltdown” and attacked the government for doing little to address the problem, “it is certain that almost all of society’s ills can be traced directly to the collapse of the family life”.

Justice Coleridge warned the breakdown of the family would, within 20 years, "be as destructive as global warming".

my 2 cents: not every broken family produces dysfunctional children but almost every dysfunctional child comes from a broken home.

You still do not necessarily need two 'proper' parents to nurture children with good parenting skills though. I still think we always hear about the bad side of things far too much...not the positive.
The minority is always noisier.

It was all scripted...these were a series of plays put out by the BBC and the excerpt above was one of them....not sure what it was proving...there's always an out of control character like that around, but, apart from swearing a lot, he didn't do much other than make himself a pain in arse....the family has been in major meltdown since Thatcher became PM...she undid our society and didn't put it back together again...I know you think the sun shines out of her arse, Semafu, personally I think she was equivalent to the bubonic plague for the devastation she caused to our country...

    Which world do you live in, Semafu? HLOL...Thatcher declared there is no such thing as society...where the heck did family come into play there? She was no more interested in keeping families together than she was was in a creating a fair society...no job, get on yer bike she said...and that meant husbands leaving their wives and kids and going miles away to work and seeing them only when they could afford to get back...she started the rot...the Labour party picked up the pieces...she proved greed was better than altruism and taught a whole generation of youngsters that if you want something you go for it by any means at hand, and, that for many, meant get pregnant and get housed...because, under her regime, they'd have got zilch...and I presume by your last comment you're anti homosexuals as well having rights in their relationhships...hmmm...we differ on a lot a things, Semafu... Amazing that we still can communicate without rancour...

      (yes, i would include homosexual lifestyle along with cohabiting, single parents etc)
      
      it's just that i think that for raising a family - marriage, between a man and a woman is the *best* way

        Well, up to a point I agree, but so long as children are raised in a loving environment, I think they will grow up into healthy, well balanced kids no matter what the lifestyle of their parents are...there's nothing worse than living in a family unit that is full of stress and discord, and where you're continually either ignored, or put down, so, if I had a choice, I wouldn't mind who brought me up as long as I was loved and encouraged...big hugs...
