How can one remain positive in the face of constant doom and gloom?

    I am extremely worried.

This world of ours seems to be on a rapid decline.

The population is increasing at an alarming rate.

    Natural resources are diminshing.

We seem to be on the brink of a massive recession.

    CO2 levels are increasing.

Everything is going in the wrong direction.

Oil is at a record high.

Gold is at a record high.

Gridlock whenever you try to drive anywhere.

However... we are increasing runways and terminals at airports.

Conclusion. The world has gone mad.

    Why? Greed, Ignorance/Stupidity and Short-termism.

Feel free to publish your solution to this crisis below.

  • faster and better transport - allowing populations to be more distributed and increasing commerce.

Massive investment in nuclear power (i know they are going to do this anyway)

global adoption of economic principals known to work - proposed by Adam Smith 200 years ago.

Scrap the CAP – it’s evil.

  • Zn - you a pessimist? Concerned about politics? Yes, I am dreaming...

  • I remember the same problems from when I was in high school. and that was 30 years ago.

  • Face it! We are a pest species and doomed to strangle ourselves with our own excesses. It is everybody's "human right" to destroy the planet and most of them plan to grab what they can while stocks last...... :(

I am a hermit, but even with great care, my impact on the planet is greater than it should be to maintain human sustainability.

  • Simple Z. It is not that bad. Don't give all of these doom-mongers house room. There is an industry for the doom brigade paid for by those who want to be gloomy. Very clever. A self-perpetuating industry that does nobody any good but to which people sign up. I like it. I might join. No what can my doom hobby horse be? I know. I will think up a doom laden story about grass. There is plenty of that about so should be a real money spinner.

  • The outlook doesn't look good at present doesn't it? But man will adapt and will overcome. It may not be pleasant but we will come through. But we need to learn some serious lessons for the mistakes we have made.

Munzly made a good point though, if you can remember the Matrix films, at one point in the film man was describe as a virus upon the world, destroying everything it touched. Which of course is very true!!

  • This world has always been mad it's just a different sort mad in this day and age, live your life and worry ye not of all the world's woes, what will be will be.

  • Everyone needs to becomes reacquainted with the concept of respect! Respect for our earth, respect for our loved ones and respect for the human race as a whole. After all, we only get what we give. Every aspect of our life has been created by our actions. The real problem is that we, the majority of the population who wish for happy lives on a healthy earth, allow ourselves to be lead by the minority who want nothing more than power and to satisfy their own greed. The problem is no one gives a shit! They are too wrapped up in their own lives or too scared to notice the bigger picture.

    • When you live in a very densely populated part of the World such as Greater London, it is harder to have this respect. Trivial example coming up: It was a gruelling challenge simply trying to pick up a few groceries at 5.40pm with the supermarket closing at 6 p.m.

      • I can understand the difficulty in areas such as London but should the fact that it is hard be an excuse? Everybody thinks that way and that is why we live in such a chaotic world. No one person can change society but we can all try at least. I live in Liverpool and am surrounded by guns and shootings, thugs who want to intimidate just to compensate for their own inadequaties. It is these people who need to learn respect, respect for themselves if anything. And we only know what we have been taught. Trying to be 'good' is never easy but that deosn't mean it is impossible.
