    This is good to see...

Lib Dems with Nick Clegg are back to the important idea of talking about how the UK should be run.

When he asked Cameron he got some facile suggestion about "ganging up", and when he asked Stalin Brown, he got six pages of legalistic waffle.

Come on, dead-head career politicians, these are good ideas that we need to talk about if Britain is ever to get back to being for the benefit of the people who live in it.

  • Also heard part of his speech on the Radio today...hmmm...heard a lot more than I thought I had today...HLOL...it struck me that it was rather an appeal in the dark to a party that cannot possibly get into power in the foreseeable future unless drastic changes to the voting system take place, and that's not going to happen with Labour and the Conservatives yoyoing back and forth as governments...he may have some good ideas, but the Lib Dems seemed doomed to always be the party that never makes it to power and therefore, they can have brilliant ideas, none of which will ever bear fruit...how do you get rid of a voting system that puts two parties only in continuous power and it's only them that can change it? The answer is, you can't unless everybody decides in the next election not to vote at all, and most people won't give Clegg's ideas a second glance let alone pay heed to them...sad old world but it's us the voters that keep it going, so as much our fault as it is the politician's....

    • Maybe we need to see how titchy little Ghandi made the British Empire go away? I am certainly not advocating any sort of Guy Fawkes scenario...

      • Just mentioned Gandhi in another debate here...LOL...well, he practised non-violent opposition to conquerors...not quite the same over here...difficult to practise non-violent opposition when the other side isn't being violent...just bloody pig headed...:) How to defeat vested interest perhaps should be our question without a violent revolution...can't see the Brits having one of them...also don't know how many indigenous Brits are left in our country with the mass migrations out of it by disillusioned Brits over the last several years...not sure whether that's a very PC remark though...probably completely wrong in thinking there's a sort of balance between non-Brits and Brits now in this country so changing the system won't interest a lot of the people, just so long as a living can be made and there's a net to catch the weak and vulnerable....I've got a feeling that's going to get a few rebukes from people...LOL...but do admit I don't know the proportion of non-Brits to Brits now resident in this country...would be interesting to know that...and quite happy to concede the balance is certainly not as high as I might be suggesting....

  • Hey Walrus my betusked friend,

You may not have noticed but the only ideas the Liberals have come up with recently are to abstain from important votes or to walk out of the Commons.

This Blair clone, Clegg, can't even keep his front-bench on-side, half of which just resigned because they realise the waste of time abstaining on votes actually is!!!!!

Break out the caridgans and the sandals, here come the liberals. :)

    • Snigger if you wish, but I think MPs that are not pushed round by their "leader" are a good thing. I think we have adequate historical evidence of that. It is even possible that enough people actually think things need to change, though I admit it seems more likely that the majority of the population would prefer to get legless every night, and ignore what the country does in their name.

ps The Liberals were that lot with Jeremy Thorpe and his dog, Norman. These are the Liberal Democrats I'm talking about.

pps Cardigans and sandals are not compulsory.

  • I thought that the only difference between the Liberals a la Jeremy Thorpe (I've got his autograph!) and the Liberal Democrats is that the Lib Dems are the Libs + Dr Death (David Owen) who I am sure is really Shere Khan from the Jungle Book, and dotty Shirley Williams.

The cardigan and sandal people are now in the Greens. Around here in leafy Surrey the Lib Dems are all property developers and used car dealers. The main thing that differentiates them from the Conservatives is that the Tories have a holiday home in Florida, whilst the Lib Dems have a place in France or Tuscany. The Tories are generally Estate Agents or bankers. The few remaining Labour members in this area are retired Architects or airline pilots.

  • I hope Clegg gets the LibDems back to being economically liberal. With the Tories not planning to slash public spending, someone has to offer the voters freedom from the State.

  • We could all just go on a general tax strike...
